Over the moon: Simon Zebo

Ireland back Simon Zebo has been flown out to join the British and Irish Lions in Australia as injury cover for Tommy Bowe.

Following Ireland's 15-12 victory over the USA, Zebo received the call from Lions tour manager Guy Richardson and the Munster wing will now fly out to Australia.

Zebo will cover fellow Ireland winger Tommy Bowe, who underwent surgery on a broken bone on his hand on Sunday and could be back involved with the squad within two weeks.

Ireland full-back Rob Kearney, who was an earlier fitness doubt for the tour, is back in training and could be involved in Saturday's match against the Waratahs.

"The surgeon told him if everything goes alright it could be just a couple of weeks. Once the plate goes in his hand the bone is fixed, basically," said Lions head coach Warren Gatland.

"I'm absolutely over the moon. It is the best news I could ever have dreamed of," said Zebo.

"As a professional (Irish) rugby player the ultimate goal is to be a British and Irish Lion. Hopefully I'll get the chance to do that if I get my cap. That is something I have to work towards now."
