Along with the Geordan Murphy criticism he also was quick to criticise Paddy Wallace for the penalty in the grand slam game against Wales. He needs to follow that up with being honest and admitting he messed up. I get the feeling this, coupled with Munster crashing out to Leinster last season will lead them to walking the Heineken cup this year. That is what Munster do and it's set up for them again.
He should have been brought on in the first test but he needs to keep those opinions to himself and not follow in the footsteps of Balshaw or Dawson. Lost a little of respect for him after reading those quotes.

This is not about the Lions - it's about O'Gara the man. Whinger, can't tackle and no bottle

DDLI,
You're joking, right (unless you're referring to BOD's attempted smash on Habana which resulted in the injury to Gethin Jenkins)? I'm talking about his 'tackle' on Danie Rossouw, coming from an offside position, on Rossouw's blindside, with absolutely - i mean absolutely - no attempt to use his arms. More a mugging than a tackle, it should have been cited at the very least. BOD might not have actually meant to hurt Rossouw, but it was reckless at the very least, and far more dangerous than anything Bakkies Botha did. Nor was this an isolated incident on BOD's part. Go to YouTube and review this incident and also his pathetic attempt to get Bismarck du Plessis sent off (gets up off the ground, punches him off the ball, then throws himself back down on the ground so that the cameras will show a South African beast punching a helpless Lions back!) And we won't even talk about Sheridan's spineless punch to the groin on Andries Bekker, presumably because he didn't have the balls to hit him properly and face the consequences.
Perhaps that's why the Northern hemisphere teams are so far behind the Southern hemisphere ones - because their players play with one eye, and their spectators watch with one.

>> He also still believes that the call to penalise him for the charge on Du Preez was a 50-50 one, despite the current stringency on mid-air tackles when a player is catching the ball. "Some referees would give it. Some referees wouldn't," he said.
And he wonders why he wasn't picked for the first Test? Is he still concussed?

this article sucks and makes me even less of a fan of ronan o'gara. i love the fact he doesn't credit the opposition once. either it is going unreported, or the lions are the biggest whinging crybabies ever to tour. stand up a grow a pair. you got beat, admit where you went wrong and get better to win the next time. that is sport.

I am of the opinion that it was absolutely a penalty ROG clattered into Du Preez when he was in mid air, it was a completely hair brained tackle as he was not even close to the ball & yet again he cant just shut his mouth and accept he screwed up, he is far to quick to dish it out on everyone else i.e. when he criticised Geordan Murphy for missing a tackle for Ireland some time back when he is non other than the proverbial speed bump himself! For all his undoubted abilities he could do with taking a long look in the mirror at himself. In relation to the foul play on both sides which dsds refers to being on both sides, its a ridiculous argument the Boks were clearly the biggest offenders here Burgers gouge on Fitzgerald was a disgrace & warranted 6 months at the very least as usual southern hemisphere leniency when it comes to discipline, also to bracket O'Driscol in the category as the Boks when he clearly tries to wrap the player and hits head in the process, this at least while maybe a foul was done honestly & without any malice

You have a point Abrad. Any side that misses as many first-phase tackles as the Lions did doesn't deserve to win a Test series. And there were worse bits of foul play - on both sides - than this (step forward Brian O'Driscoll). Still, this article smacks of lily-livered self-justification: 'I didn't do anything wrong and if I did, I didn't know I was doing it.' Too late to cover your rectum, ROG. All you can do now is join the Fourie du Preez Fan Club. And while you're at it, check if Matt Giteau is interested....

agree with you countryboy....are we going to get another article on the 1997 Lions tour too??
and what does this mean......"He also still believes that the call to penalise him for the charge on Du Preez was a 50-50 one, despite the current stringency on mid-air tackles when a player is catching the ball.
"Some referees would give it. Some referees wouldn't," he said."......that's like saying Schalk Burger is 50% bright and 50% dim.

I really think it is ureasonable to bang on about this. I am a Bok supporter, but seeing how one individual is punished like this for generally an outstanding effort is just bizarre. O'Gara has a rugby life and on the day in that split second under tremendous pressure he made a decision wich hsitory has proven to be maby not the best. The bottom line is he earned the jersey, he played hard and he conceded a penalty but was it that last minute penalty, or the one the BIL conceded before or was it the one before that? that caused the loss? If you chosse your team yoou stand by their success or failure. Sport is supposed to enrich our lives not merely to be for the negative entertainment at expense of others...surely not.

What a total fabrication this whole story is......a 50/50 call my eye. By the time the book comes out it will have us believing that the whole fiasco was entirely the referee's fault. Just another miscarraige of justice against the squeaky clean Lions!
By the way, I sense a lot of discord over selection policy in this article. It seems like the cracks in the facade of the supposedly unified touring party are beginning to appear. It's amazing what losing will do to cause all the negatives to be dredged up.
