Defending champions Leinster will begin their Magners League 2008/09 campaign with a tough trip to Cardiff Blues, the fixtures revealed on Tuesday.

The clash at Arms Park will see last season's top two in the competition clash with the remaining eight outfits also beginning their charge on the weekend of September 6.

Elsewhere, Heineken Cup winners Munster visit Scotland's capital city to face Edinburgh, whilst the big game in Ireland sees Anglo-Welsh holders the Ospreys visit Connacht.

Once again 'local derbies' will be held over the Christmas/New Year period, whilst the season will conclude the weekend of May 16, in time to avoid any potential clash of dates with the opening fixture of the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa.

These fixtures are weekend only dates; specific dates, kick-off times and in some cases venues, will be released later in conjunction with broadcast partners and individual teams.

Magners League:
(Opening weekend of September 6)

Cardiff Blues v Leinster
Connacht v Ospreys
Dragons v Glasgow Warriors
Edinburgh v Munster
Ulster v Scarlets
