High hopes: Stcherbina (r) expects Dragons to fire

Cardiff Blues centre Marc Stcherbina has joined the Dragons on a season-long loan.

The Australia A player, who has made 52 appearances for the Arms Park outfit, is delighted with the move and expects improved times at his new side.

"There is no reason why the Dragons can't be successful," he told the South Wales Echo.

"They weren't easy-beats by any means last season and people over there in Newport tell me there is a new buzz.

"They've signed Kiwis and we know they bring a win at all costs attitude. Nothing else is acceptable to them."

The former Waratahs and Biarritz centre had been linked with the loan switch for some time before an arrangement between the two sides were finally agreed.

"Now it's happened, it's fine," the 31-year-old explained.

"I'm just looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. I had to accept, particularly after the year I have had with injuries.

"I was going to be the one to take the fall if the number of non-Welsh players at the Blues was going to be reduced.

"Fortunately for me, I had the option of the Dragons. I had a really enjoyable time at the Blues and it's not if there is going to be a great upheaval in my life.

"I'll still be living in the same house.

"Life throws curved balls at you and you have just got to hit them. I'm actually looking forward to the challenge.

"After two days at the Dragons, I can definitely see the positives of the move.

"My first goal is to get in the Dragons team and take it from there."
