Worcester Warriors' new full-back Chris Latham is feverishly working to get himself fit in time for the new Guinness Premiership season.
The Wallaby legend tore a pectoral muscle in May on duty for the Reds in the Super 14, ending his hopes of a final Tri-Nations.
The initial prognosis was that Latham would also be ruled out of the Warriors' season-opener against Northampton Saints on September 6, but Latham is hoping the rehab work he has put in will lead to a doctors' green light on Friday to begin contact training again.
"I'm doing everything I can to be fit for the Northampton game," said Latham to the BBC.
"The club will support me regardless of whether I am fit for the first game or not but I desperately want to make my Warriors debut against the Saints.
"I won't know for sure until I check with the doctor on Friday this week, but I'm staying optimistic."
