Caught: Seru Rabeni could be in serious trouble

Leicester's Fijian international centre Seru Rabeni is facing an investigation from the RFU after appearing in a charity sevens event last weekend in Bath while serving a suspension.

Rabeni was banned for 14 weeks from April 1 after being found guilty of gouging Saracens hooker Andy Kyriacou on March 15. The ban was set to expire on July 8.

If found to be guilty of playing while banned, Rabeni faces an extension of his ban, and given the severity of the initial offence there could be a lengthy sentence imposed.

"The RFU discipline department is aware that Seru Rabeni of Leicester Tigers is alleged to have played in the Bath Charity Sevens on June 28 in contravention of his 14-week suspension, which expires on July 8," said the RFU in a statement.

"The RFU disciplinary officer, His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett, is investigating the matter and the appropriate action will be taken."

Local press in Bath reported that Rabeni had played in nearly all of his Kavaiti All-stars team's pool and knockout matches in the tournament, which the team won.
