Former Wallaby Test winger Ben Tune has been injured after flipping his car during an event at the Barbagello Raceway.

The 46-times capped player was driving in the Mini Challenge - one of the support categories of the V8 Supercar championship - when he lost control of the vehicle.

It took a rescue team 20 minutes to extract Tune from his car before he was placed in a neck brace and on a spinal board.

Keen motoring enthusiast Tune was conscious but complaining of back pain, and he was taken to a local hospital for what a spokesman called "precautionary checks."
