Rupeni Caucaunibuca: Coming to the Premiership?

A report in the Fiji Times has said that Leiucester Tigers have tabled a bid to bring wayward Fijian genius Rupeni Caucunibuca to the Guinness Premiership.

'Caucau' (pronounced thau-thau) as he is known, departed French Pro D2 side Agen eight months ago, after a string of disciplinary offences including several spells AWOL, a couple of red cards, and one suspension for smoking cannabis, which saw him miss the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

He returned to Fiji, where he has begun playing for Fijian club side Tailevu and has been his usual stellar self, scoring five tries in four matches.

Tailevu Rugby Union secretary Nimilote Naivalumaira has confirmed an offer from Leicester Tigers is on the table, and that Caucau will be flying to Leicester this week to discuss terms.

"He will be flying over this week to look at the contract. Caucau will miss Saturday's game against Rewa, but he'll join us for next week's game in Ovalau," he said.

It will be interesting to see how he fits in at Tigers if the move does become reality. He would join international team-mate Seru Rabeni - who's discipline is also suspect at times - in the squad, under new coach Heyneke Meyer, but the pressure at Leicester would be extreme, something Caucau is not good at handling.
