Sale Sharks continue building for next season with the announcement that they have signed David Doherty from Wasps.

The 21-year-old wing, who has represented England at U19, U20 and Sevens, joins the Edgeley Park outfit on a two-year deal.

"I am pleased that David is joining Sale Sharks, he is a young player with plenty of potential," said Sale Director of Rugby Philippe Saint Andre.

"He made his mark at Leeds and has played in some big games for Wasps this season. I am sure he will fit in with us at Sale Sharks and we look forward to his arrival at pre-season training."

Meanwhile, Newcastle Falcons has announced that England Saxons winger John Rudd has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The 26-year-old has made 52 appearances in two seasons since joining the club from Northampton Saints, and said after signing his new deal: "I have enjoyed my spell at the club so far, and I'm looking forward to extending that time."

Acting director of rugby, Steve Bates, said: "John provides a big physical presence in our back line with the way he plays the game.

"He gives us variety behind the scrum and plenty of go-forward with his direct running style, he is an excellent professional with a fantastic attitude and it is great news for the club that he will remain with Newcastle Falcons for next season."
