Dan Carter: Major concern

The Crusaders' celebrations following their Super 14 win - their seventh on the trot - against the Hurricanes were short-lived after Dan Carter went off during the second half with a knee injury.

In making a tackle on Hurricanes' centre Tane Tu'ipulotou, Carter's knee twisted awkwardly and he was clearly in great pain as he went down.

The All Black fly-half went down holding his knee which will be of great concern to the whole of New Zealand - not just the Crusaders - and he had to be helped from the field.

In a ding-dong, penalty-ridden struggle the Crusaders prevailed 20-13 against their New Zealand compatriots, but Carter's injury in the 67th minute would have put a dampener on any joy they might have felt at making the perfect start to the 2008 season.

There was no immediate indication of how bad the injury was.
